Australia is a democratic country with a liberal amount of debates and freedom of speech. The political system in opertation is a version of the Westminister system, which is based on the British form of government.
The political parties present are not particularly diverse with two main parties often alternating in power. These two are the Liberal Party of Australia and the Australian Labour Party.
In Australia, eight national holidays are celebrated around the country on the same day. These are New Years Day, Australia Day, Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. In most States, when a public holiday falls on a normal day off (generally a weekend), the following workday is considered a public holiday.
The Australian Dollar ($A) is the basic unit of currency in Australia and is equal to 100 cents. There are total of six coins and five notes in circulation. Notes are in denominations of $100, $50, $20, $10 and $5. While coinage is in denominations of $2, $1, 50c, 20c, 10c and 5c. As well as the normal circulation notes and coins, periodic commemorative notes and coins are also minted from time to time.
ABORIGINAL
The word “Aboriginal” was first used in Italy and Greece to describe the native people who lived in those regions. It means “the first” or “earliest known” and refers to the original inhabitants of the area who were not newcomers or invaders.
